What should have happened (if everything would have worked):
Your web browser will download the web page from our server and render the HTML
Your web browser will download the SpecheBox from our server.
Exception:
If you have already downloaded the current version of the SpecheBox Applet by viewing an eScription event or taking a Product Tour, your browser will load the SpecheBox Applet from the web cache on your local computer.
You will be prompted to grant the SpecheBox the permissions required to run. (See

Exceptions:
If you have already responded to the security prompt during your current web browser session, you will not be prompted again. (See

If you have previously responded to the security prompt and chose to "Always trust contnet from this publisher.", you will not be prompted again.
If you are using Internet Explorer with your Security Level is set to Low, you will not receive this prompt.
The SpecheBox will load and connect to our broadcast server.
The SpecheBox will join the in-progress live broadcast and display any data received.
You may be offered options to change the font, size, style, and color of the text, and background color of the diplay area.
You may be offered options to view or save a complete, up to the second, transcript snapshot or to redirect the data stream to a file or Serial Port.
Requirements of the eScription Platform:
Your computer must be able to run Java applets. This requires the installation of a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) such as the Java Plug-in. (See

)
Your network / firewall / proxy server must allow the downloading of Java Applets.

Your Security Level can be set to Low, Medium-Low, Medium, or Custom.
If your Security Level is set to Custom, the following security settings impact the functioning of the SpecheBox applet.
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins must not be disabled.
Java permissions must not be set to Disable Java. If your Java permissions is set to Custom, please see
Custom Java permissions settings
. Please note that the settings for the Java VM will be applied to the JRE / JVM that is currently being used by your web browser (Java Plug-in, etc...).
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting should not be disabled, or functionality may be lost.
Active Scripting should not be disabled, or functionality may be lost.
Scripting of Java applets should not be disabled, or functionality may be lost.
If you are running an older version of Internet Explorer (5.x), it may be necessary to modify the following additional security settings.
Download signed ActiveX controls - This must not be disabled.

Cookies are used to allow a user to save their formatting changes of the display area.
Cookies must be enabled to allow formatting changes to be saved.
Firewalls:
All communication is via HTTP over port 80.
This platform is configured to work with all Standards Compliant firewalls and proxy servers.

Browsers Supported by the eScription Platform:
Any web browser that is capable of running JavaScript and Java Applets (See
General FAQ #1
) may be supported by the eScription Platform. A wide variety of Java capable browsers are available for download and installation. We have listed a few browsers that have been recommended by our viewers. The listed browsers represent only a fraction of the browsers that are capable of showing the text display. Please see

Custom Java permissions settings for the Java VM
If you are using the Custom setting for Java permissions under the Java VM, please review the following:
Run Signed Content must not be disabled
Access to all Files must not be disabled
Access to all Network Addresses must not be disabled
Execute must not be disabled
Dialogs must not be disabled
Printing must not be disabled
Protected Scratch Space must not be disabled
User Selected File Access must not be disabled
Connection Details
The SpecheBox is a signed applet that connects to text.speche.com:80 (216.189.144.23:80) when initialized, using HTTP 1.0 or 1.1. The SpecheBox is proxy aware and will utilize a proxy when detected. It will honor authenticating proxies as well as the proxy exception list. The request is in the form of a METHOD POST to /livestream.aspx asking for a persistent HTTP connection. The response is a stream of MIME type application/octet-stream (encrypted for encrypted connections...). Once connected, the server will send a "pulse" every 3 seconds during periods of inactivity in order to keep the connection from timing out due to inactivity. If a connection is lost, the SpecheBox will attempt to reconnect until the server tells it the event is no longer active.
